I will forever refer students to this post when I find myself needing to explain why weaving from the back feels right (though I do teach them from the front for basic weaving techniques). That magic and surprise is half the reason I love weaving in the first place!Amahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14695930210952768286noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-71232803753868616.post-28027844376534748222014-11-27T09:51:58.802-07:002014-11-27T09:51:58.802-07:00I started weaving from the front as the books I wa...I started weaving from the front as the books I was using did it that way. Then I took a workshop with James and changed to weaving from the back. Since then I did two small pieces from the front but immediately reverted to weaving from the back. I am currently using a loom with a vertical warp, but treadles and a beater. Somehow, weaving from the back just feels better to me. I think I must be influenced by Jean Pierre's comments (because of it "feeling better", but I really "get" what Archie said about technique and image. Thanks for the post! I admit to not having any special physical or mental insight while doing this. I just like it. James Koehler was my first tapestry instructor, so I started weaving from the back. Then I tried the front, and prefer it. But it doesn't matter which you do, so long as you keep weaving!

CherylAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
